Montgomery Litho Group

MLG

Montgomery Litho Group (MLG) is Scotland's biggest independent printer with a turnover of £22 million employing 340 people with 24 Sales Executives in three strategic locations across Scotland – Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth. The company’s range of services are as diverse as digital and variable printing, commercial printing services, book printing, offset printing, specialised binding, print-on-demand and fulfillment.

MLG have always been committed to technical innovation and forward thinking, they were early pioneers into digital print, installing one of the first HP Indigo digital presses in Scotland. Historically, the company’s focus had been on the litho markets, but in recent years MLG identified that the conventional market was changing and the digital market would grow and they needed to grow with it. After a year of research into new technologies, and the introduction of Stephen McPhee into the team, MLG decided to opt for RedTie’s web to print solution.

Coming from a prepress background, the team at MLG took to the software relatively easily. Since MLG adopted the RedTie system in 2009, the feedback from the Sales Executives has been extremely positive, reporting that 92% of clients want to employ the Red Tie system as part of their marketing strategy. The sales force have found that the fact they have something new to offer has made ‘cold calling’ so much easier.

It is best illustrated using the working example of one of MLG’s clients - Phoenix Car Dealership.

Phoenix has 18 dealerships across 5 sites - Paisley, Glasgow, Stirling, Grangemouth and Kirkcaldy, so the Phoenix Marketing Department is a busy office, tasked with organising and driving forward all the promotions that each dealership has to offer. As well as being one of the largest car dealerships in Scotland, Phoenix also provides a 'one stop shop' for aftersales such as MOT Testing, Servicing, Tyres and Parts.

Jacqueline, the Marketing Executive of Phoenix explains,‘We moved over to utilising the MLG online ordering system (powered by RedTie’s software) for Service and MOT Reminders. Within 2 weeks of using the system and sending out postcards, our calls had increased by 36% which we were absolutely delighted with."

"Within 6 weeks of sending the postcards, our calls had increased by 54.85%. Brilliant! It's such an easy system to use and makes ordering simple."

Stephen McPhee, Digital Solutions Director of MLG describes the relationship with RedTie,

‘I first met Marian (Stefani, RedTie’s Chief Executive) in Israel in 2009 and immediately liked the RedTie product. Its ease of use and clever back office functions made it a winner for MLG. Our overall experience of RedTie has definitely been a very positive one and thoroughly rewarding on a personal and a business level.

The fact that we are working in a ‘print on demand’ world and were relatively new to the concept of web to print meant that we needed the best support in order to resolve teething problems quickly. The RedTie support team never disappointed. I’ve been in the print business for 30 years and have dealt with many customer support services from a lot of different suppliers and I would have to say RedTie’s support is second to none.

After a 15 to 30 minute training session on the customer interface, our clients are up and running and they love it without exception. Once you get your head around the way the software is structured into branded URLS (BURLS), categories and products, the logic of the system becomes clear and it becomes an easy solution to use.

Overall, it’s an excellent tool to help nurture and develop existing customer relationships and attract prospective clients and it is as easy as ordering from Amazon!
